Welcome to the Newfoundland and Labrador Fish Harvesting Safety Association Website

The Newfoundland and Labrador-Fish Harvesting Safety Association (NL-FHSA) is an industry-led Fisheries Safety Association helping reduce injuries and save lives at sea.  It encompasses a fervent and industry-driven effort with a sole mandate to improve fishing vessel safety. 

 

The NL-FHSA’s primary focus is on prevention; promoting and developing a positive industry-wide safety culture.  Learn more about the NL-FHSA in the ABOUT section.

This website is intended to be a safety "tool box" for fish harvesters and those interested in fishing industry safety.  It includes information on all areas of fishing industry safety, including applicable regulations, training, safety alerts, safety tips, safety research, relevant reports, industry injury statistics, best practices, safety promotion, and more.

To assist fish harvesters in Newfoundland and Labrador with development of their written safety procedures (required in Transport Canada FVSR), we have developed a series of sample procedures outlining some of the more common hazards that result from fishing operations.
